Incorporating green engineering principles in industry is cost-effective and environmentally sound. Engineers can make a difference by designing and by using reusable and repairable products, as well as by implementing waste-minimizing strategies in engineering processes. If you design, produce, and/or manage production, this course is for you. This course will also help you proactively comply with and exceed state and federal environmental regulations, reduce production costs and liabilities, market your eco-friendly products to increasingly conscious consumers, and improve community relations. Objectives To introduce engineers and industry managers to the following concepts: 1.Engineering Properties of Recyclable and Recycled Materials 2.Principles of Design for Reusability, Reparability, and Recyclability 3.Waste Minimization by Design and Environment-Friendly Processes 4.Life Cycle Analysis 5.Economics and Standards Site Visits Participants will visit two industrial and municipal waste sites in order to fully appreciate the need for, the scope of, and the innovative methods required in green engineering practice.
