Innovation Works: Manufacturing Technologies for a Better World is a real or "virtual field trip" for students and scientists to experience fun-filled activities and interactive demonstrations by some of America's leading companies. In celebration of Earth Day, IWORKS will be broadcast LIVE on the WWW from the National Mall in Washington, DC. Sponsored by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and its educational affiliate, The Manufacturing Institute, Innovation Works will highlight technological innovations industry is making to help the environment. This event will be broadcast LIVE on the WWW Dozens of major corporations -- from auto makers to chemical and petroleum firms to film producers -- will be there to showcase industry's commitment to economic growth with environmental responsibility. If you can't join Innovation Works on the National Mall on Earth Day, join us on the World Wide Web at www.iworks.org and www.tvontheweblive.com from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM EDT on Wednesday, April 22. Innovation Works is... a place to learn about manufacturing innovations, technology, and the earth, in celebration of Earth Day with innovative technologies, hands-on exhibits, Student/Business Leader Forums, and Guest Appearances. Innovation Works also is... a LIVE World Wide Web event or "cybercast" where students from all across the country can chat on-line with representatives of major corporations and receive streaming video and audio from the event in Washington, DC. A great "virtual" field trip for earth science and technology & electronics classes and clubs, this event is being cybercast LIVE nationwide on Wednesday, April 22 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Innovation Works also is... Fun, interactive, informative curriculum for students grades 6-12. Student/Business Leader Forums Two 30-minute forums are scheduled to give students the opportunity to talk with business leaders. The forums are entitled: Teens & Industry - Preparing for the Millennium and Industry & Environment - Bridging the Gap. Interactive Exhibits Hands-on displays will demonstrate cutting-edge technologies such as electric cars, steel recycling, renewable energy, and more. For example, Ford Motor Company, Nissan North America, and Toyota are showing off environment-friendly, alternative energy vehicles. Guest Appearances Government officials, the national media - even a celebrity or two - will be on hand to tour the exhibits and talk with students and other visitors. Student Field Trips Students from Washington, DC area schools and programs such as the Close Up Foundation have been invited to participate in the event. Curriculum and Lesson Plans The website will also feature age-appropriate lesson plans which challenge students in the areas of science and industrial technology.
