When giving design seminars (mostly on welding design), I regularly survey the participants about which design methodology they use. It routinely comes back about 90% ASD and 10% LRFD, with a low sometimes that only one or two in the group use LRFD (out of about 30 or 40 people), and an occasional high in some cities that approaches 20 to 25% (usually in larger cities on the west coast with a substantial percentage of the group made up from firms that are doing seismic design).
