The section that prohibits its use is 2213.8.2.3, although not explicitly. It basically prohibits the use of braces that would be all in tension or compression along any line of resistance. For tension rods, 100% of bracing is in tension, therefore it does not meet the intent of this section. This could also apply to other types of braces, such as WF, tubes, etc. If they are situated in way that all would be in tension or compression at the same time, they would not meet this section's requirement.
