Subject: WTC Contacts / Cranes

I am watching the progress on the WTC debris clearing with tremendous interest.  I spent some time this weekend sitting around with some erection company execs I know discussing the option and current methods.  I am sure we are not the only people thinking about this.

Some of the options we were kicking around were setting up a high-line system or tower cranes to enable the debris to be removed from the top.  A couple of 400 ton Manitowoc cranes with a high-line could possibly span the debris with at least a 5 ton lifting capacity.  Based on the time estimates I am hearing on the news, we need some serious crane options to enable the debris to picked from the top safely.  The timeline to setup and put a high-line system or two maybe in conjunction with some decent tower cranes is negligible compared to the benefit.  We could borrow construction methods and technologies from dam contractors, mining operations, any number of people experienced with long distance lifts and material handling.

Does someone on the list have Drew Normans email address?  Do we have any other task force contacts where we might be able to help coordinate a response?  We need to get Manitowoc and some major east coast rigging companies involved to develop some better and faster alternatives.   I and others would be willing to donate our time and resources to form a coalition of engineers and rigging companies willing to provide necessary support services. Cranes, crane options, temporary foundations, anchorage supports, whatever is needed.
